Day Eight

Today, we drove from Amarillo, TX to Albuquerque, NM. We went from a campground that was as flat as can be in Texas, to an amazing landscape in New Mexico. We couldn't believe the scenery we drove through today.

First we stopped at the Famous Cadillac Ranch. It was created by a San Francisco artist in 1974. About ten cars stand up right in the middle of a corn field and you are supposed to spray paint on them. It looks pretty cool from the highway.

Adam had such a good time looking at the cars, that he cried when we left. He kept saying "Love Cars!" (He's a little crazy about cars!")

The view out our window of Northern Texas...

Tucumcari, NM had a mountain that has a T carved into it with white rocks. We thought it was neat because in the Cars movie, there is a RS carved into the mountain. We are starting to really see how well the movie portrayed the old Route 66.

Can you find the T?

Adam started to also notice the similarities and kept pointing to his book and then outside saying "Same Thing! Same Thing!" He was looking at the mountains and open desert land. It was really cute! He loves anything to do with the Cars movie, so this trip is right up his alley.

We stopped for lunch at Joseph's in Santa Rosa, NM. It's not the original restaurant from Route 66, but the new owners have preserved the logo and feel of the era.

Our next stop was down the road from Joseph's, still in Santa Rosa at the Blue Hole. It's an 80 ft. wide, 240 ft deep artesian well with water that is crystal clear. Scuba divers come from all over to dive here. It was really neat!

There was a little snow left on the ground, but it felt pretty warm out.

We walked around the campground in awe of the scenery...

Zoe LOVES the "Kamp K9s" at every campground!
